I never had trouble breastfeeding and expressing milk, but since I am on meds and I am not allowed to breastfeed, my breasts are starting to get engorged and painful. What should I do?

Why not express the breastmilk but throw it away? It seems like a waste but it's the most effective way to get rid of the engorgement. Warm compress helps with the pain too.

I was told you could pump it and throw. Just a bit each day until your body gets it that milk is not needed anymore.

Yes, express or pump and just throw it. How long will you be taking those meds?

Can she pump at a regular rate so she can still breastfeed after she stops taking the meds?

Yes, definitely. Pump, aand throw. Express the breastmilk as often as her child usually feeds, so the body will keep producing the same amount of milk.
